Why Am I Even Here?

What is my purpose on earth? What was I born to do? Why am I even here?

Have you ever asked yourself any of these questions? I believe that we have all asked or pondered in our minds some variation of this type of question. We may have felt that we were created for something more and we longed to fill the void and bring contentment to our lives.

Roman 12:4-6 declares, “For just as there are many parts that compose one body, but the parts don’t all have the same function; so there are many of us, and in union with the Messiah we comprise one body, with each of us belonging to the others. But we have gifts that differ and which are meant to be used according to the grace that has been given to us.

We were all created for the same purpose, although we would accomplish it in many different ways, through many different gifts, talents, skills, and abilities.

A common saying within Christendom is that we were born to worship God. Though true, worship is a means through which we fulfill the real purpose for which we were born – to bear witness to the Truth. Worshipping God bears witness to Him – who is TRUTH.

The Father sent his Son and the Son, in turn, sends us. In Apostle John’s account of the gospel, Messiah was sent to Pilate and while being questioned about his kingship, He replied,

” … The reason I have been born, the reason I have come into the world, is to bear witness to the truth … “ John 18:37 CJB.

Just as Messiah came to bear witness to the Truth, He has mandated us to do the same. In Acts 1:8 before His ascension, He said to His disciples,

“But you will receive power when the Ruach HaKodesh comes upon you; you will be my witnesses both in Yerushalayim and in all Y’hudah and Shomron, indeed to the ends of the earth!”

He is Truth and our purpose is to bear witness to Him.

The Father is Truth. Messiah Yeshua and the Father are one; therefore He is Truth. Ruach HaKodesh is the Spirit of Truth. Thus we should bear witness to the Godhead – The Triune God.

To bear witness means to:

Testify: to talk about or say (something) in an honest and confident way  and/or to show that something is true or real: to give proof of something

Attest: to show, prove, or state that something is true or real

In order to fulfill this purpose – that is, to bear witness to the Truth – we need to have personal knowledge of the Truth. We need firsthand knowledge. We must get to know the Truth for ourselves, not through hearsay.

As we realign our purpose, let us get to know Him, who is Truth. By this, we will effectively bear witness to His salvation, to His healing power, to His deliverance, to His peace, to His lordship, to His provision, to His love, to His faithfulness, to Him – to the Truth.
