We learned in the previous post that disobedience displaces us. When this occurs we have the tendency to hide ourselves and are covered in shame, guilt, insecurities and fear; however the intention of the LORD is not for us to create any covering for ourselves so He has made a better one available for us.
[YHVH], God, made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. Genesis 3:21 CJB [personalized]
We know that, naturally, clothing made from animal skin is more substantial and lasting than clothing made from just leaves. Adam and Eve knew they were exposed so they tried to cover themselves but what they created was not sufficient. Thus the LORD provided the appropriate covering for Adam and Eve.
In an attempt to cover and protect ourselves from being vulnerable and exposed, we use shame, guilt, insecurities and fear to build barriers of protection. However these things cannot sufficiently shelter us from the elements and circumstances of life. They only make it worse.
Furthermore, it is not the will of the LORD for us to be clothed with shame, guilt, insecurities and fear. Thus He shed blood to provide the proper cover that has the ability to last.
For Adam and Eve, it was animal skin. For us, it is the blood of Messiah Yeshua. We only need to come clean, own up to our mistakes and wrongdoings, and allow Him to cover us. This covering is not only lasting but it allows us to operate in the way we should in our marriage and relationships – getting back to the original design we were created to operate in.
[YHVH], God, said, “See, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil. Now, to prevent his putting out his hand and taking also from the tree of life, eating, and living forever—” therefore ADONAI, God, sent him out of the garden of ‘Eden to cultivate the ground from which he was taken. So he drove the man out, and he placed at the east of the garden of ‘Eden the k’ruvim and a flaming sword which turned in every direction to guard the way to the tree of life. Genesis 3:22-24 [personalized]
The consequence of their disobedience was that what should have come naturally to them, now requires hard work. Additionally, they were faced with death – separation from the LORD. They were driven out the garden – out of the shelter and presence of YHVH.
Because of Grace and Love, we are no longer driven out and prevented from partaking of the tree of life. But rather, the LORD has made provision for us to eat the Bread of Life and He has given us the privilege of once more dwelling in His presence forever.
With this in mind, rest assured that by Grace and Love, we can be naked and unashamed in our marital union and relationships. Despite the challenges of life, we can rise above the struggle and be open, exposed and vulnerable without fear, shame, guilt and insecurities.
Choose the covering provided by YHVH and be intentionally honest, open and vulnerable with your spouse beginning today!
